Top Motivational “Teacher” at Fillmore Middle School
Anything but mini, Rick Minniefield is a motivational speaker with a great message and a powerful presence. His visit to Fillmore Middle School on Friday at the invitation of the school's ASB, under the supervision of teacher Jennie Jenkins, was both moving and effective.
His website describes Minniefield as, “…a big man with a big message…Rick helps people realize they can achieve their goals and aspirations by learning some basic principles that build self-esteem and personal motivation. His presentations encourage, inspire and challenge people of all ages to take control of their lives and deal with difficult situations.”
And that he did. Minniefield had the students up in their seats, laughing out loud, having fun and all the while listening to his persuasive and heartwarming story. Coming from an eleven children, welfare dependent home could have caused a life of continued hardship, but after a painful visit to the grocery store with his mother, he vowed to turn his live into successes. With great ease Minniefield communicates these changes, these challenges and responsibilities to an entire room, daring students to take ownership of their own future, their own success while placing squarely on each child the added responsibility of caring for one another. Rick currently works as a Health Educational Specialist and is active with Friday Night Live. He presents programs for at-risk youth and juvenile hall students and is active with the Neighborhood Watch programs.
