Speaker guides students towards taking control of their lives When Rick Minniefield of Chico tells students to take control of their own lives, he does it in a positive way. Unafraid to deal with difficult situations as life presents them, Minniefield told students in health classes at Plumas County high schools how they can achieve their goals and aspiration by learning some basic principles that build self-esteem and motivation. Calling his motivational talk, Courage Under Fire, Minniefield as the Butte County Friday Night Live coordinator, crosses the country sharing his knowledge and special speaking personality with students. In Courage Under Fire, Minniefield shares a specific message with the audiences that, choices we make now may affect us later on in life. Decisions shouldn't be taken lightly. As an example, Minniefield said that early use of drugs, alcohol or tobacco can and does have serious effects on people later on in their lives and students should understand the consequences of their actions today. If they use at this age without understanding the consequences, they don't just get a slap on the hand, Minniefield warns about the seriousness of the situation and what will really happen in the future. Minniefield's presentation uses his background in experiential training to encourage, inspire and challenge today's youth to take control of their lives and deal with difficult situations, explained his counterpart Tim Ball, FNL coordinator for Plumas County. And in accomplishing this, Minniefield talks about how students can deal with peer pressure, boredom, poor role models, low self-esteem and negative societal influences. Minniefield's presentation uses his background in experiential training to encourage, inspire and challenge today's youth to take control of their lives and deal with difficult situations, explained his counterpart Tim Ball, FNL coordinator for Plumas County. Minniefield and Ball agree that high school should be a fun time for students. And in helping students achieve a positive four-years, they believe there should be a strong focus on youth not only at the school level, but in the community, through leadership and with a positive commitment on all levels. We're losing too many of them to drugs, alcohol and violence, Ball explained recently in an interview with the two men after they had finished a round with the schools. It's really hard being a teenager with all the different things out there, Minniefield said.
